Creative Connections Club

Creative Connections Club is a safe, calming, and nurturing therapeutic art group for children aged seven years and above. This semi-structured group provides a supportive environment where children can explore their sense of self, express their feelings, and develop confidence through creative expression.

Art provides a powerful way for children to communicate beyond words. Many children find it easier to express emotions, process experiences, and explore challenges through art rather than talk alone. This makes art-based therapy particularly effective for children who may find verbal expression difficult, overwhelming, or less engaging.

In this group, children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, make mistakes, and explore a range of art mediums — all in a space that values their process and individuality. The focus is not on producing a “finished product,” but on self-expression, self-acceptance, and connection with others.

Through this process, children develop:

  • Self-expression – exploring thoughts, feelings, and experiences safely through art

  • Emotional regulation – using creative activities to identify and manage emotions

  • Self-confidence and self-worth – building a positive sense of self in a supportive environment

  • Resilience – learning to try new things, experiment, and navigate challenges creatively

  • Connection and social skills – sharing and reflecting on art with peers in a safe, inclusive space

Art engages the whole brain — stimulating creativity, executive functioning, sensory processing, and emotional insight. It can access feelings and experiences that words alone cannot reach, making it a unique and powerful therapeutic tool for children.

Who Is Creative Connections Club For?

  • Children aged 7 years old and above

  • Children who benefit from a calming, reflective, and expressive environment

  • Children who may find talk therapy challenging, or who prefer hands-on, creative ways to express themselves

  • Children who enjoy or are curious about art and creative exploration

  • Children who would benefit from building confidence, emotional regulation, and connection with peers

Program Overview

The group begins with an initial parent consultation to discuss your child’s strengths, needs, and goals, followed by an initial child session to support rapport-building and orientation to the therapeutic space.

Each session includes:

  • A gentle mindfulness activity to support relaxation, presence, and emotional regulation

  • Exploration of a variety of art materials and mediums, allowing for free, directive, or guided creative expression

  • Time to create artwork at the child’s own pace, with the opportunity to share and reflect on the process and feelings if they wish

At the end of each term, a parent feedback session provides insights into your child’s engagement, growth, and participation.

Please note: Creative Connections Club is not an art class. It is a therapeutic and reflective group designed to provide a calm, supportive environment for growth through creativity.
