Minecraft Builders Club

Minecraft Club combines children’s love of Minecraft with opportunities to build social confidence, connection and teamwork. In this welcoming, neuro-affirming small group, children come together through a shared interest they already enjoy, making it easier to communicate, collaborate, problem-solve and connect with peers.

Using Minecraft-inspired build challenges, children will be supported to share ideas, listen to others, practise flexible thinking and work as part of a team in a fun and engaging way.

This is not simply a gaming group. Minecraft is used as a therapeutic tool to support communication, collaboration, problem-solving, flexible thinking and confidence in connecting with others.

How it works

Children will use devices provided by Parent’s Domain and participate in Minecraft Education within a private, therapist-supported multiplayer world.

Each session will include a small collaborative challenge designed to support social connection, teamwork, communication and flexible thinking. Therapists will support children throughout the session to share ideas, negotiate, problem-solve, manage tricky moments and celebrate each other’s strengths.

The group is kept small, with a maximum of four children, to ensure each child can be well supported.

Term theme: Building Together

This term’s theme is Building Together. Children will work on mini collaborative building challenges that encourage teamwork, communication, flexible thinking and creativity. These challenges provide natural opportunities for children to practise social connection in a way that feels motivating and meaningful.

The group will be semi-structured, with therapist support provided throughout the session to help children navigate peer interactions, share ideas, repair tricky moments and build confidence.

What children will practise

Throughout the group, children will be supported to practise:

  • sharing ideas with others

  • listening to other people’s ideas

  • taking turns and working as part of a team

  • asking before changing another person’s creation

  • coping when plans change

  • problem-solving with peers

  • giving and receiving feedback

  • celebrating their own strengths and the strengths of others

  • enjoy Minecraft or Minecraft-themed play

  • would benefit from supported social opportunities

  • find it easier to connect through shared interests
